The Market for Gaming Laptops Is Getting Crowded
25 August 2008Not so long a go it appeared like gaming laptop computers were exclusively attainable from select resellers and they were traditionally custom built. They were basically like a small qty production plant. Didn’t sell in numbers but produced a lot of profit on each one. They were the kind of laptop computer everyone wanted but the one they just couldn’t buy. If you a power hungry user they were basically the best laptop computers you could get. They probably weren’t massive sellers though because I reckon most of us buy laptop computers that we can easily afford. Recently all that has appeared to have changed as the massive brands have learn ‘t of the opportunities in laptops for gaming.
If mass produced, companies can generate large margins on gaming notebooks. These days the usual laptop computer margins are so narrow so it presents the opportunity for them to regain the gross margins. This was probably the last sector left where prospects would buy laptop computers from smaller system builders. This is a massive threat to smaller niche retailers. With the things at their disposal they can simply get rid of smaller competition. In my point of view if anybodies decided to spend a lot of money the brand name always comes out on top.
The laptop computers being released by branded companies are all contending for the best laptop status. In my view the unknown system builders essentially move on this if they’re to exist.I am sure consumers that purchase these types of laptops like to be able to configure their laptop. This type of consumer is normally well educated in the technology and can contrast the specifications. Sometimes the specifications hold more importance than the design for these types of buyers.
This would be rather beneficial from the purchasers standpoint. In the near future premium kit for your money will be the result of this saturation. Even though that is my take on it, its just my opinion and probably not what will occur. I think technology is getting increasingly better however the latest laptop computers will always remain expensive. I guess we will have to see whether this overcrowding creates any significant benefits for consumers.
